As the district’s new compliance officer it is my duty to address the underlying problems within the district. Currently, the primary cause of conflict within the Kelsey Unified School District at Kelsey Elementary school is that the Language Arts Compliance Team is stuck. The school did not meet their required scores English Language Arts last year, and must meet them this year in order to meet their goals. The conflict is now arising when a team was put together in order to try and help to think of ways to ensure that the scores are met and the schools goal is reached this year. However, the compliance team is having trouble communicating with each other, some of them are having trouble attending meetings, and much concern and hard feelings are being formed about people within the group. The first thing that I will address is effective team communication skills and the barriers that are keeping this team from doing that very thing.

In the article, Growing a Team General John Wickham was quoted saying, “I think the Army would make a serious mistake if we made a distinction and said, “You are a manager, and you are a leader.” So my philosophy is that we are all leaders! (Pg. 1)” It is important to remember that when working with a team, do not stand on the sidelines waiting for someone to tell you what to do. Everyone needs to communicate thoroughly and share the responsibilities of team work. Everyone needs to be a leader at some point during the process of teamwork. The greatest benefit of working as a team no matter where you may be is the great many different strengths your team can provide. One team member is more likely to have strengths in areas that you or another team member may be lacking in and vice versa. It is important to tie all the strengths in to the game, team assignment, or work project, thus making it the best it can be.
