Project plan overview
Description of the project
This project will create a single database for Nursing Service that can be accessed by every area of Nursing Service. It will be linked to database used by the human resource department of The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). Access will be given to the Vice-president and Chief Executive Officer for UTMB Hospitals and Clinics, the Chief Nursing Officer, all Nursing Services directors, all Nursing Service nurse managers, and designated support staff for each of these entities as needed. A nurse manager can only have access to the nurses for which he/she is responsible. Information can be complied on a single nurse, a unit and by nursing personnel categories. The project will enable these entities to validate the competencies of the nurses hired, the nurse’s development can be structures, a nurse’s progress can be monitored and we can correlate a nurse’s level of performance with that of a unit’s level of performance. Budgets can be calculated more accurately, if a nurse manager is aware of his/her nurse’s advancement, participation in the Preceptor Program, if the person has achieved a higher degree, or if the person has moved up the clinical ladder. It can also help the nurse manager determine how many nurse’s are going to move up the clinical ladder to ensure that funds will be available for the advancements.
