PROLOGUE - By Fraser Thomas 12.7 2001 It was a clear night with a full moon- one of those nights straight from a romance novel. Love was in the air, as it usually was on a night like this. A solitary figure of a man was walking along the road past large and imposing houses. He was a soldier. All the possessions this soldier owned were what he wore and the few dollars he had in his pockets. He was carrying flowers, largely picked from the gardens of the houses he was walking past. James was off to meet his girl. Well she wasn't his girl exactly, she was the most beautiful girl in the town. But, for the last couple of weeks he had held her eye alone and the process of courting had begun. A casual observer could say that it was doomed from the beginning. It was not proper for a rich girl to marry a poor boy and Daisy was from a proper family. But while they held each other in their arms they were content to just be together. He walked up to her house, but he didn't knock on her door. He picked up some pebbles and w! alked around the back of the house and threw them at her bedroom window. She opened her curtains a fraction, glanced down and saw him, then quickly ran to come downstairs. The reason for not knocking on the front door was because of her father. He didn't mind if she saw soldiers every night, but his daughter had been seeing this same soldier quite regularly and usually that leads to things that you don't want your daughter to do. Daisy was down the steps in less than five seconds. She almost floated down them. It was that fairy like quality that attracted men to her. It was if she could almost be blown over by a quick gust of wind. As if she could fly away at any given moment if she chose. She ran out the door then leapt into James' arms. The war had arrived and this was their last night together before he had to go off and fight for his country. But for now that did not matter, for now they had the whole night ahead of them to...
