Jennifer is having stress is caused by the pressure from her in-laws to have a baby after the miscarriage, the passing of her mother and declining health of her father, and her work always wanting to be the one people count on. The stress is causing pain in the form of headaches and backaches along with indigestion; making her health decline. Michael’s stress come from the recent divorce ending a 15 year marriage, the inability to see his children as much as he would like, the layoffs that his employer announced, the inability to support his children or lose the house he just purchased, and the chest pain is also causing him stress. The stress is causing him to have chest pains, and making his health decline.

2. Jennifer’s self-concept and self-esteem are being lowered by the stressors. Jennifer’s self-concept can be lowered by the fact that she may have to put her father in a nursing care facility, against his wishes. Jennifer’s in-laws can also be lowering her self-concept by pushing her to try again for a baby. The thoughts of the miscarriage can be very hard on a woman. Jennifer’s work can be bringing down her self-esteem. The pride she has in not letting anyone down can make her feel worth less when she does let someone down. Michael’s self-concept and self-esteem is also being lowered by the stressors. The end of his 15 year marriage can make him feel like a failure because he was not able to make his marriage work, lowering his self-esteem. The inability to pay for his home or support his children can also lower his self-esteem. The fact that he is not able to see his children as much as he would like can make him think he is not a good father and lower his self-concept.
