In this paper we will review and analyze one study that was done of a type of treatment for PTSD patients. We will start by going over some of the symptoms of PTSD so that you can have a better understanding of the disorder. Once you understand the disorder the study will make better sense to you. Patients that suffer with PTSD symptoms may suffer in silence for years before being diagnosed but as the study will show you if the family is there to help the patient than it will be easier to overcome the disorder.
This study was done using a clinical psychology approach. The reason I feel it fits in to clinical psychology is because it is studying treatment for a psychological disorder (Newman2011). The focus on treatment of PTSD and our troops is important to me because I fell a strong connection with them and would like to someday help our veterans and their families in the battle over PTSD. Our troops give so much for us and it is up to us to make sure that when they return home they are able to succeed as much as possible.
Background
Post-traumatic stress disorder is something that is a growing problem. Post-traumatic stress disorder is referred to as PTSD. For years PTSD did not really have a name it wasn’t till the Vietnam war That soldiers coming home were labeled with what was called shell shock and were given medication that would keep them calm but there was never anything really done to help the patients figure out why they felt the way they did. It was in 1980 that the DSM–III gave the disorder a name (Smith&Segal2012).
Psychologists have come up with many different ways to treat PTSD. As with any other psychological disorder PTSD is something that need to be researched more. There is no “cure for PTSD at this time there is only treatments to manage the symptoms. My hope is that one day there will be a “cure” so that...
