There is a big difference between non experimental and experimental research designs. Non experimental research designs are used to predict what you think is going to happen. If there is a steady pattern between people complete college and those who are successful, one can predict that if you go to college you will become successful. In this design you are also able to get a picture of what people are thinking, feeling, and doing at a given moment in time.
In experimental research designs you are able to manipulate the variables within your study. This is so that you are able to things as similar as possible for all the groups that will be compared. You will be able to receive an explanation as to why you received the results you did which is something non experimental research does not do.
In order to figure out which one of your drugs is more effective in people with schizophrenia the appropriate research design is descriptive research. Researchers with be able to get a picture of what people are feeling while they are on the drug assigned to them. A general overview will be given of which drug is more effective which is exactly what we need!
300 participants diagnosed with Schizophrenia will be split evenly into two groups. One group will receive the old medication and the other group will receive the new medication twice a day for two months.
Participants will be measured with a scale called Self-Recoverability in Daily Life (SRDL). This measures daily-life skills within people with Schizophrenia.
T-tests will then be used to compare results from the participants in group one and participants in group two.
