Abstract
The following paper addresses the public policy issue of euthanasia. Comprehensive definitions of public policy and euthanasia are included. The document’s content contains the process in which a public policy is enacted and a rationale for the relativity of euthanasia to the learning team’s curriculum. The subject is controversial. Therefore, the major subtopics and pro and con views are an essential focus of the manuscript. Interest groups who are either in opposition or favor of euthanasia and the impact that they have on relative legislation have been examined and addressed. Likewise, the effect that the law has on people directly faced with similar end of life decisions is included to allow the reading audience an inclusive view of the subject. The team researched litigated cases and included court rulings. Furthermore, solutions that could act as a compromise for individuals on both sides of the argument are examined.
Public Policy Issues
The definition of public policy varies depending on which scholarly version that an individual chooses to adopt. One formal definition describes the term as affirmative state objectives relating to health, morals and the general well being of citizens (Business Dictionary, 2007). The explanations of the term differ but have a common function. Public policies serve as the meeting ground of social matters and legal parameters. The role of legislators and courts of law is to abolish or reverse any action, indenture, or trust that contradicts the intent of providing comfort, security and welfare to the country’s inhabitants. The effort to annul such activities is carried out even when a current decree does not specifically assert the deed in question as void (Business Dictionary, 2007).
