Why do people have such a hard time using punctuation in their sentences or paragraphs? Punctuation is a problem for a lot of people. The more complex the sentence, the more punctuation mistakes arise. When using commas always reread your work and then insert the comma where you feel it belongs. Sometimes sentences don’t need a comma. Commas are used as a break within a sentence. Another one of my pet peeves in punctuation people need to understand the different between a colon and a semicolon.
I understand when you are in a hurry and you write too fast, but reread your work and please insert the correct punctuation. When you do reread your work, you will find the problems instantly. Read your paper at least three times to make sure you captured all of the problems that are in it before you turn it in. Common mistakes are easy to find. I make those mistakes often myself. Trust me I am not perfect. I do make mistakes and if I don’t catch them others will and let me know.
I only have a few punctuation pet peeves and honestly I am getting use to how people write. A lot of people use shortcuts in everything they write now days. I can open a book, start reading it and come across errors instantly. I have thought about contacting the company and see if they have any openings for editors but again I am not that good at writing period.
My best advice for myself and others is to print a copy of punctuation marks and their meanings. If they have examples try to print them too. They will be useful in a lot of your courses.
