Puppy Monkey Baby was an ad sponsored by Mountain Dew, aired during the 2016 Super Bowl. Mountain Dew knew the Super Bowl was one of the most watched program compared to other individual events. Mountain Dew needed an ad that would grab the people's attention and keep them glued to their televisions and wanting to buy Mountain Dew's products. They succeeded in their goal of capturing people's attention, but not in the way they intended. Instead of recognizing the product advertised, they noticed the overall weirdness of the ad. The ad went viral overnight, creating its own hashtag and being in several news stories the next morning. although Mountain Dew knew the audience it was trying to reach with its weirdness and over the top antics, the company may not have predicted to over zealous response to this simple advertisement that was only thirty three seconds long. This advertisement is seen as weird and overall just strange, but through further analysis and study, this simple ad seems to have a much deeper overall meaning. Mountain Dew knew what they were doing when the added such subtle yet so obvious hidden meaning behind this strange advertisement.
On the surface this ad appears to be very straightforward, a quirky little ad that has a very memorable protagonist that would have people searching for that ad to relive the humor it provided to the viewer. This particular sponsored by Mountain Dew, did just that. The protagonist, a beast mixed a puppy, a monkey, and a baby. Such a strange combination is it not, or is it? This beast created the perfect mixture of oddness and strangeness is grab the attention of all ages, young and old. The ad opens with three men staring longingly bored at the television, making a glance at the table you notice there are no drinks or refreshments.
