My faction has selected the issue of racial discrimination. This topic is an extremely touched subject and is also an ongoing cycle that must come to an end; the question is how do we put a stop to it? Federal and state laws have been put into place but it still seems like these law are being ignored. Another question we ask ourselves is what is racial discrimination? More than often we think we know the answer however we fall short of what the truth really is. In this paper I will attempt to cover an overview of what is racial discrimination. According to Wikipedia, "Racial Discrimination is treating people differently through a process of social division into categories not necessarily related to race." We must also keep in mind that the white society has categorized the non-white communities into race categories, we have the african-americans in which the term black is often used, we have the Hispanics were the widely used term is Latino, we also have Asians were the term oriental is used, and last we have native Americans in which the term Indian is used, being that all non-whites are categorized people have the tendency to discriminate against those who fall into the traditional non-white race categories. The majority of racial discrimination occurs in the workplace. Based on the information provided by Wikipedia, "Researchers, including Dean Karlan and Marianne Bertrand, at the MIT and the University of Chicago found in a 2003 study that there was widespread discrimination in the workplace against job applicants whose names were merely perceived as "sounding black".
