Racism Unit Essay

Throughout history, there have been numerous times that people have committed crimes against people of colour. Seeing that people of colour don't match up with them, they assumed that people of colour were dirty, uneducated, and not equal to white people. Fortunately as time passes, we slowly accepted the fact that people of colour are equal to the white people in our society. Living in a first world country we may sound very educated and reasonable, but racism still exists today in the world.

As much as we have advanced in today's technology, sciences, and logical reasoning, some people just still don't learn the fact that people of colour are equal. Back in the old times schooling wasn't something that everyone could afford and most of the population weren't rich, so the level of intelligence that one person can possess is very limited. When they first encountered the Indians in Canada to trade furs and set up trading posts for their company, they didn't care whose land they were trespassing on because they knew that it was the people of colour. Also, people from Europe were sent to Canada to settle due to financial problems. Since they needed land to settle these people, they decided that the Indians should have less space than before to allow settlers to live there. The Indians were in the end so condensed into a tiny area of land that it became inadequate for them to properly live on. These actions were done by people that were educated since they had the money to afford schooling in their country.

In today's society, we may not see racism happen that much, but once in a while we will see it happen right in front of our eyes. For example, the other day I was just scrolling down on my Facebook feeds and I encountered a video that had an old man with a cane arguing with a young lady of colour.
