Abortion TOPIC: Abortion GENERAL PURPOSE: To persuade SPECIFIC PUROSE: To inform you of how common abortion is getting, and create a solution THESIS: Abortion rates are rising daily, so we need a policy to stop it. Introduction Attention: abortion is becoming. Second, I will discuss a policy solution that will help pregnant women better understand the different choices that are available to them. And last, I will share with you a way in which we all can lend a hand in stopping abortion. [ Transition: Let’s start by discussing how frequent abortion is getting, and what effects it has on people.] Body A. The first reason is that so many human beings are being killed. It is said in Jimmy Carter’s book that 47% of unplanned pregnancies, resort to abortion (1). It also states in the Care for Life Act that in the US, 48,000,000 abortions have occurred since 1973 (3). That’s double the amount of people living on the continent of Australia. So as you can see, there are too many people being killed by abortions. The second reason why abortion is a serious issue is because abortions have severe consequences, which can be physical and mental. According to Laurie Tumow of the Heritage House Inc., a mother’s next baby after having an abortion “is twice as likely to die in the first few months of life” (2). The next baby will also be more likely to be born premature (2). Laurie Tumow states also in her findings that most women who have abortions suffer from suicidal thoughts or actions, and end up dealing with depression (2). And with these type side effects of abortions, we can’t afford to waste another year, another month, not even one single day.
