My literacy history… Well, I think it’s nothing special but it stated a long time ago. I think it began when I was a child and my mother started read me tales. Our contact with books usually began in this way. Next step is school. First teachers have one of the biggest influences to kids. They teach kids that reading is useful and can be pleasant. Kids defend ability to learn and fast reading. As time is going you create taste and read books not only you have to but which you like.
With me it was similar. I love to read, especially fantasy books and what is little different books about child’s psychology. I never have problem with that. With understanding text, reading text critically or making conclusion. Very helpful for me is highlighting. I need to visualize what I read. The highlighting is so helpful because highlight words make them stronger, more clear and then, easy to understand and remember.
Writing is my Achilles’ heel. My problem is that I don’t like write. My first bad experience take place in high school. The teacher restricted my subjects, opinions and my “thoughts”. that made me upset and nervous. When I was study at the University the most important were information. Writing papers was so easy, but it wasn’t constructive. Because of that I started writing poems. That helps me a o lot, because I can write what I feel.
One year ago I come to The Unite States, last semester I spend in ESL class. It was great time; I met many people from other countries. I also learn a lot of things connected with English off course. I’ m still in a process of learning English. It’s not easy, but I believe that someday I will be speaking, writing and reading in English well.
