Reality TV Programs
            Since the creation of the television, scripted shows have been the most broadcasted programs on the screen. These programs had the highest view ratings and were broadcasted throughout the country the most up until recently. Beginning in the 1990s, television stations decided to turn to reality television programs and away from scripted shows to gain higher view ratings. When being compared to scripted TV shows, reality TV shows are inexpensive to produce and highly popular with viewers. Due to television stations decision to increase broadcasting reality TV shows and high view ratings, reality TV shows are more popular than scripted TV shows today.
             Television stations have decided to increase the production and broadcasting of reality TV shows because they are more popular than scripted TV shows. These stations have decided to run reality TV shows over scripted TV shows because they cost much less to produce. Due to the inexpensive television production for reality TV the profits for television station employees have increased. These stations have also decided to run reality TV shows over scripted TV shows to please their shareholders. Studies have shown that television stations state, “We also strive to please our shareholders and, due to lower production costs of reality TV, our shareholders will notice a significant increase in profit” (Source A). This realization made by the shareholders will cause the network to produce more reality TV shows over scripted TV shows. From a network rating system chart, it is clear to see that television productions have recently been broadcasting more reality TV shows rather than scripted TV shows (Source B).
