What pleasure do you get from watching a group of people show you their so-called real lives that are actually completely fake and exaggerated? In recent years, TV channels have discovered that “reality” shows are extremely profitable, resulting in a tidal wave of these shows. Some reality shows become very popular and are embedded into our culture. However, this does not mean that they good for society. Can you honestly say that after watching any of these shows that you have learnt something truly important?
What is the message of these shows? Educational, witty and stimulating. None of these words can be used to describe this type of television. Not only do these shows reflect awfully on our media culture, but they also corrupt the minds of younger people by giving them these twisted views on what society is like. For example, since shows like ‘The Only Way Is Essex’ have been aired on our televisions it has boosted our economy by £1.4 billion. Now you might say that this show is clearly good because of this fact. However you may change your mind when you hear what their fans have been buying. There has been a rise in the sales of false lashes, false nails, false hair, fake tans, tight dresses, sky-high stilettos and even vajazzles. This is nowhere near good. More and more young girls are covering themselves in falseness because it was they think boys like it. These shows have given them this view. When they see their favourite character smothering their faces with make-up until they’re orange and then going out and meeting someone, because that is what the script says, that is what they think they should do. These people are role models for younger generations and this is the example they are setting. What would you think if your daughter went out orange faced in a tight dress with 5 inch stilettos? Just a couple of decades ago, dressing like that would result in you being mistaken for a prostitute. But now girls as young as 13 seem to think it’s a good...
