Rebirth

Creative Writing Assignment-Rebirth
A storm broke with a sudden violence. Turbulent clouds rotated through the sky overhead. An ominous dullness wrapped the dark sky like a giant umbrella. Craaaack! Thunder snarled with fury, as mad as a hatter. The white flash of lightning heralded a crash of angry thunder. The lightning danced momentarily in the coldness. A moment later the rain began to fall, in solid icy droplets.
A horse and rider had just emerged from the shelter of a thick dark forest, halting on a ridge overlooking a vast valley. The rider was an old man, dressed in a long woolen cloak, thick and warm, wrapping his body up, protecting him from the storm’s ferocity. He turned his gaze to the sky, unafraid of the frenzied tempest. The clouds were a dark grey mass, rolling close to the ground, obscuring the distant mountain tops like a shroud. Against this menacing background were patches of darker, more sinister clouds, black and ominous, bringing the threatening thunder with them.
The old man was aware of this terrible storm but wasn’t troubled; the weather merely reflected his mood. He was remembering a long forgotten period of his life which he had hoped to never revisit. Many years ago he was a leper. Segregated in a diseased colony, everyday was miserable. He often thought of death and considered it as a more appealing option than suffering through each day. Watching all hope drain away like water flowing down the sink, he wanted to disintegrate into the dirt below him.
However, one day his life changed forever! A man named Jesus came into town and healed him completely. Not only did he have renewed skin, but he felt his spirit rejuvenate.
On that thought there was a sudden gust of wind. The rain ceased and thunder faded away, the lightning dispersed. And the sun slipped from behind the mass of clouds and shone down on a single drop of water settled on a leaf. The drop glowed golden and sent out rays of light into a fresh new world.
