Reconstruction

Reconstruction only lasted for seven years after the Civil War. Reconstruction was formed to bring back the Confederacy into the Union and to give freedmen’s rights. I do believe that reconstruction was a success in the long run by giving rights to people and educating them further. Reconstruction is a success because of The Thirteenth Amendment, The Fourteenth Amendment, The Fifteenth Amendment and Freedmen’s Bureau.
Being a free man was only a thought for most Africans that lived in the US in the 1800’s. To end slavery in the United States the Thirteenth Amendment was passed. The Amendment said, “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, shall exist in the United States. “ This is a great win for reconstruction, people are starting to become free; although many southern did not like this amendment and wished it would never have happened because it would hurt their farms and living order. The Amendment needed to happen the way Africans were forced in slavery without a say in the matter is just awful. Not only were the people freed if other men wanted Africans back in slavery and tried they would be put against the law. The Thirteenth Amendment says, “Congress shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.”That means the Africans are freed from forced slavery and if anyone tries to put them back as slaves they will be put up against the law. Reconstruction did a lot just in that one Amendment but there were still two more passed. The Africans were having more trouble not only as being a slave but in other fields like voting and soon to be black codes.

The Thirteenth Amendment was great for what it was meant to do, but it could not do everything for the African Americans. The Fourteenth Amendment was put in place to grant anyone born into the United States (including blacks) citizenship.
