Reflection Questionnaire: of Mice and Men

1) What did you like about the book?
What I liked most about the book Of Mice and Men is the fact that John Steinbeck described the characters so well. As I was reading the story, I could see each character in mind because each aspect of the character was described. Another I liked about the book was that George and Lennie had such a bond. In books I have read I have not often seen such companionship from two people. George would do anything for Lennie.
2) What did you dislike about the book?
What I disliked about the book was how Steinbeck went into so much detail about the scenery. It was not important to the book so why did he have to waste two pages describing trees in Soledad. I understand him describing the bunks because they are part of the story. Trees have nothing to do with the story at all. Another thing I disliked about the book was how Curley’s wife was such a tart and by not giving her a name, saying that all women are like that.
3) What questions would you like to ask the author regarding the book?
I would like to ask the author why he put so many characters in the book that he only named once, like Whit and Carlson. I know Carlson was in the book to shot Candy’s dog but what did Whit do? I would also ask the author why he chooses to make Lennie mentally challenged. I wonder how the book would be different if Lennie was just like George. Would they of been able to achieve their dream of owning their own land?
4) What would you want to change about the book?
What I would want to change about the book is that I would want to make it longer. I felt like it just got good and then bam! Lennie’s dead and George did it. If the book was longer I probably would have liked it better. I think it would be cool if a chapter actually took place in Weed. Instead of people just talking about what happened.
5) What would you rate the book on a scale of 1-10?
On a scale of one to ten with ten being my...
