Remember the Titans

“Remember the Titans” is a football movie about racism; two schools, one all white school and one all black school. The state forced the two schools to merge into one and the community did not respond very well. The African-Americans did not what anything to do with the Caucasians, and the Caucasians definitely did not want to be forced to go to school with people of color. The integration of the two schools made the community so upset that the Caucasian population began rioting in the streets. As part of the integration, the faculty and staff of the school were also mixed. What really stood out was one black coach on an all white coaching staff for football. The white coaches were not very accepting of him and expected him to resign.

The black coach’s name is Herman Boone, and soon after the integration word got out that the state would like him to play the role of head coach. Both the current head coach and the Mr. Boone were leery of Herman accepting to position. They were both fairly content with the status quo and coach Boone did not want to accept the position based on the color of his skin; but he was eventually peer-pressured into accepting the head coaching job by a friend of his and the entire colored community. Coach Boone took his role as head coach very seriously, almost too seriously at first; he humiliated the team captain and only All-American on the team Gerry and he did it in front of all his family and friends. This humorous joke turned serious quick, and it only added fuel to the fire of hatred; but Coach Boone did get to prove his point that he doesn’t care about color, he only cares about the character of his players and to win football games.

Ever since the beginning of the movie, it was easy to tell that the city was very community driven and that they loved football; the problem was that there was two very distinct communities within the one community: white and black. Immediately...
