Thomas Flandermeyer College Writing Robert Seufert 12/8/08 Rhetoric 101 Final Paper X: I once read a book about Seoul, Korea. 1: Seoul, Korea has many family traditions. 2: Seoul, Korea has many eating traditions. 3: Seoul, Korea has many holiday traditions. X: I once read a book about Seoul, Korea. 1: Seoul, Korea has many family traditions. A traditional Korean family does many things that are considered “traditional”. One thing they do differently from American families is that they have many parades throughout the year. When a Korean family has a child and that child gets baptized, they do it a lot differently than the American way. They take their children out to a sacred lake owned by the church they attend and baptize them out in the lake. With most all of their family traditions, either it be while eating or even during the holidays, traditional Korean families are almost always wearing their traditional apparel. 2: Seoul, Korea has many eating traditions. When eating at a traditional Korean families house for dinner, there are many rules you must follow. One rule is that you must have you shoes off before you get to the dining table. The table has a short, rectangular shape that requires you to sit on the floor to eat at. Another rule is that you must use chop-sticks when eating at a traditional Korean family’s house. If you are a guest then you are not required to where the traditional pieces of clothing that the rest of the family will where. Instead you must dress in you Sunday best when eating at the traditional Korean family’s house. 3: Seoul, Korea has many holiday traditions. These traditions are similar to the American way of celebrating holidays. For Christmas, traditional Korean families don’t usually put up a Christmas tree. They also do not decorate their yards with lawn ornaments. A traditional Korean family will dress up similarly to what they wear for dinner.
