Problem Solution: Riordan Manufacturing
Riordan Manufacturing is evolving into one of the largest manufacturing companies. As the company is growing they are facing some challenges. Riordan is a global plastic manufacturer that is divided among three plants which are plastic beverage containers, customer plastic parts, and plastic fan parts. The company employs 550 people with projected earnings of $46 million. Some of the major customers that Riordan has are automotive parts manufacturers, aircraft manufacturers, the Department of Defense, beverage makers and bottlers, and appliance manufacturers. The company must work through some of their challenges in order to remain a leader in their industry.
Situation Analysis
Issue and Opportunity Identification
Riordan Manufacturing has a range of issues going on within the company. The first issue is their employee turnover is high and their employee satisfaction is low. This is as a result of several things going on within the company. The company conducted an employee survey to see what the employee issues are. The results of the survey indicated employees were not satisfied in the following areas:
• Overall job satisfaction is down 25%
• Working conditions
• Personal opportunities
• Compensation and benefits
• Pay structure is not adequate
• Performance reviews are not delivered consistently
• Morale issues; Employees do not feel recognized
One of the main issues going on is with morale. The employees are not satisfied in many areas listed above. This will drive the morale of the employees down along with their performance. One thing is important is that the executives involve employees in decisions.
