What is the risk of using Malathion for our mosquito problem? How will it help our environment? How will it hurt out environment? Can we educate the people of the town of Genericville? Those are the questions at hand. There must be an answer given by myself for how I feel about the chemical and what we as a town should do with it. This is my evaluation on the situation and how I got to my vote.
What is the hazard identification of this chemical, the risk of spraying the Malathion is that people can get sick. If not educated properly that will get sick, and there may be some deaths related to this chemical. The question is will there be more deaths due to not spraying the chemical. The opposing side states that due to spraying the chemical there may be four deaths from the chemical. That may be true, but with education and training people who to stay away the chemical may not be as harmful. The problem with no spraying the chemical is that the WNV may cause up to two death in Genericville. Yes, that is true but with this being such a tourist town how many more deaths will it cause that we are unaware of. People that come to our town to see the sites, that trust us with not only their entertainment but their health. They bring their kids and maybe even relative along to see this beautiful town. While they are here they are bitten by a mosquito or one of their family members. This then causes the family member to get sick and die. Do they know where it can from, can they blame it on the town of Genericville? The answer is no, but it is a risk we are running by not spraying. We are running the risk of spreading the virus to people who are just passing through.
The people of Genericville are asking about exposure to the chemical. What will the exposure be? Will people come in to contact with it. The answer is yes, and no. At some point it will be exposed to people...
