A Pair of Star-Crossed Lovers Take Their Life
Born in the midst of violence and hate, Romeo and Juliet grew up very much alike in similar households. They only knew of their families great pride and hate for one another, with no clue of each others existence. Just imagine how it would be to grow up that way from the very start. Your handed this hate and taught to despise this person, not given any reason why. You are told it is just simply the right thing to do in your family, or else you would be a disgrace. Hate for a name, something that does not even come close to defining a person but you are to hate it and kill it if it ever threatens your name. Now can you see all the naive characteristics these children would develop after being put through such pressure. The generation of their time could have not been a happy one, growing up watching their families blood being shed over who is greater. That is a very cold world for a boy who is only about 16 and a girl who is only 13. Not one glimpse of hope for these children as they grow with darkness, till fate happens. Like two shooting stars heading in each others direction they clash and suddenly the world lights up, sparks fly, and it feels like you have found a hidden treasure through this dark world of hate. Reality then comes into the picture and as quickly as they fell in love, they fell into misery. As Juliet states “My only love sprung from my only hate! / Too early seen unknown, and known too late! / Prodigious birth of love it is to me / that I must love my loathed enemy.” (Romeo and Juliet. 1.5. 152-155. 61). Here she has just found out that Romeo, her beloved, is a Montague her cursed enemy, leading to the beginning of their tragic ending. With that in mind, its easy to say that Romeo and Juliet have free will. They could have had a better outcome to there love and ending by making smarter decisions.
