Torchia English 9 October 16, 2008 Romeo and Juliet: First Impressions If there was a room of 100 people and all were asked what they thought of Romeo and Juliet upon hearing the plot and summary of the real, non' edited version of the book, a great expectation would be for a large majority of them to have similar or exactly the same answers. Their first impressions must have been affected by different beliefs from the past. These first impressions might include bewilderment from the language, shock from the plot, and excitement from the change in books in class. distinctive from our modern English, and is difficult to comprehend in most languages, no doubt they‘d expect it to be a tough reading. Ordinarily, Romeo and Juliet isn’t as hard of a book as it is played out to be. Of course, at some points, the reading will be tricky, but with some help from entendres, oxymoron, and allusions. An average student may read a double entendre, for example, and interpret it as something dissimilar. To illustrate this point, a common Juliet, they adjust to the unfamiliar language and start to gradually understand what Shakespeare is trying to call upon. Overall, the expected overwhelming difficulty of the language shockingly seemed to be a reasonable one. The story of Romeo and Juliet is commonly known as an old love tale to younger kids. The familiar saga among the younger audience is portrayed this way on television shows intended for this particular audience, and perhaps there is a differentiated version of the play performed in the lower schools. Most children were probably guessing that the couple was roughly around the age of 16 years old, and that there was no marriage involved. As the younger audience becomes older, they carry on this belief, only to find out in high school about the real Romeo and Juliet; they learn that the love story they always knew was in fact a story of two teens just as young as them, possibly younger, who decide to...
