Introduction

In the 21st century, when the modern world is moving with large paces towards globalization and the concept of international free trade, it is very important to be able to catch up and somewhere even to overtake this rate. Shortly after the end of the Second World War the world has realized that a path, to mutual development and benefits, lies through not only political but also through economical alliances and agreements. It was in year 1948 when what we know today as the World Trade Organization (WTO), that time it was known as the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), saw birth. Primarily, this event can be seen as one of the main events that has pushed and directed the world’s societies towards economical globalization.

This paper will talk about the WTO and its mission, principles, functions and goals. It will also mention the current Russian economic situation and its economy development since its application to join the WTO in 1993. But the main topic of the paper will concentrate on the economic-related issues and barriers that are still preventing...
