Saccharin is an artificial sweetener that our country has used in various types of foods for over a hundred years. It is used by many people to stay in better shape and to control weight, basically used for overall weight, it has been approved by the world wide health organization and a hundred countries all around the world, as well as leading health groups. But still has been the subject of controversy the entire time. Many people are still unsure of using Saccharin in food products. Saccharin was discovered a century ago and has been used as a non-caloric sweetener in foods and beverages for over a hundred years. American consumers, doctors, dentists and dietitians have amazingly supported its benefits. But many conflicts have risen from the use of saccharin such as it being a health risk, causing cancer, this was noticed when a laboratory animal consuming Saccharin developed cancer. Investigators of Saccharin have put this ingredient on the suspicion list for harmful food ingredients. Due to it causing cancer in laboratory animals, it also has been know to cause other problems such as liver failure, kidney failure, skin problems and many others. This is a main concern to many Americans and others, who consume large amounts of it everyday. Though many party’s may say Saccharin is a danger, and harmful to your health and would suggest to stay away from it as best as one can, there are also many people out there who are all for it, and think its great. The board of the FDA determined it to be safe, and the Joint expert committee on the food additives commission, and the SCF have all given their approval of the Additive and so have many other boards all around the country. From working in a restaurant I have encountered many customers who made comments about the sugar, and many who didn’t, but at the end of the day when filling up sugars, I usually had to refill the small white jars with sweet’n’low….stating that there was a higher percent who chose sweet’n’low...
