Techy-Tech Inc. is a global computer software company with approximately eight thousand employees in its North Carolina facility. Techy-Tech is a firm that is plagued with a decrease in productivity due to low morale and team motivation. To solve this problem, Team B has suggested opening a coffee bar that is free for employees in hopes of improving the work environment by increasing motivation and morale, thus ultimately improving productivity by reducing stress.
Company surveys have identified that many employees have expressed that they were experiencing higher stress levels than compared to past surveys. The company has decided since they cannot control stress levels by reducing market demand, perhaps improving the work environment could help reduce stress levels. The company will research the question, will add a free coffee bar improve employee productivity?
Population
The population that is being studied is the employees at Techy-Tech, and the size of the population will be approximately 15% of the 8,000 employed at the plant. The population will consist of employees from each department that will be selected randomly after a stratified sampling method is developed prior to the beginning of the research. This population is related to the research question of whether or not a free coffee bar will help alleviate stress in the workplace and improve productivity. This research question directly affects the population as they are the ones under stress.
The Hypothesis Statement and Variable of Interest:
H0) Implementation of a free coffee bar (independent variable) in a convenient vicinity of the workplace reduces stress in workplace and increase productivity (dependent variable).
