Apollo Greek Mythology
The god that i have chosen is the god of archery, the god of light, and the god of healing, this god is Apollo. Apollo is important to Greek society because he brings many pleasing and important things. He brings music and amazing art. The important thing he brings is the power to heal. It is said that he can heal anything. The Greeks and Romans honor him with a festival called Apollonius Sophistes.
Apollo was the son of Zeus, some say his favorite son. When Apollo was born he was gifted with a golden chariot pulled by swans. Apollo always was trying to impress his father, when he was 4 days old a Python tormented his mother. Apollo got his bow and arrows and tracked down the Python. Python was a few acres long. Apollo took his first shot and wounded her. Python ran back into her cave in Delphi, Apollo tracked her down again and took his second shot but killed her this time. The citizens of Delphi were very grateful to Apollo for killing her. Which started the center of worship for Apollo in Delphi. Later on in Apollos life he figured out that Python wasn’t a regular snake, it turned out she was famed Oracle of Delphi, she could see the past, present, and future. Although Zeus favorited Apollo he thought that he should be punished for killing the Python to teach him a lesson, so he made Apollo live and work on earth for one year. He got a job working for King Admetus. King Admetus treated Apollo well. At the end of his Apollo's punishment he repaid the King by telling him his fate and how it could be revoked, he had to find someone else to die in his place. He could not find anybody to die in his place except his wife, after she died for him he had regretted his choice.
