God says in the bible, love your neighbor as your brother, and give then you shall receive. As Christians, these teachings have inspired us as seniors to reach out and lend a helping hand to others. Our goal during this project was to build relationships by showing love, care, affection, attention, and Christ like attitudes, as we intend to help those in need.

We targeted a small group of kids in the local neighborhood, Tucker Street Apartments. We felt with this group, that we could connect and interact and really have a positive impact on some of their lives. During our project we take the time to tutor kids who are in Kindergarten through fifth grade and assist them with homework, provide educational computer games, and serve as a mentor with a positive attitude. This would take place every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30p.m.-5:00p.m. starting in November 2012 and wrapping up in June 2013. Everyone in our group contributed their hours and participated equally in reaching our goal which was to give the children someone they could look up too and can depend on to be there.

We have learned as a group that educating kids is just as important as showing love and attention. The location of our project helped us realize that some are less fortunate and look up to ones who are there and set a good example for them. Building relationships and lending a helping hand to these kids has helped us grow as leaders and Christian men and women. The enthusiasm of the kids every other day when we arrive is a priceless moment that we look forward to and cherish. Not only do we get the chance to brighten someones day, but we also enjoy seeing the kids and spending time with them.
