Activity 1.2.7: Practice - Plot Summary

Oedipus was born from the King and Queen of Thebes. So proud of his newborn, King Larus went to the prophet. The prophet said that his son will kill the king himself and marry his mother. Afraid of the prophecy, King and Queen of Thebes stab the baby's foot and gave it to the shepherd for him to die. The shepherd took pity on the child and gave it to another shepherd of Corinth this shepherd gave it the Queen and King on the area. They called the child Oedipus "swollen foot." As Oedipus got older, he discovered the prophecy. Believing that the adopted parents as his real parents, Oedipus ran away. in his journey, he met an arrogant man in a chariot. With honor in stake, Oedipus kill the man. He traveled to Thebes where he met a Sphinx. The Sphinx gave him a riddle. He answered it without much thought. Thebes rejoiced in the death of the Sphinx. Since their king died, they named Oedipus king and he married the widow queen. He had 4 children with her. Famine and destruction had begun. Oedipus went to find the prophet who told Oedipus the prophecy. It turns out that the man he killed years ago was his father and his wife is the mother. Blinded by the truth he took his eyes out. The queen killed herself.
