William Shakespeare was born on April 23, 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon. He was not born into a family of wealth or a family that was especially important. At the age of thirteen, Shakespeare ended his formal education to help support his family (“William Shakespeare April 23, 1564- April 23, 1616”). Therefore, he did not attend a university, but his talent was very modest. He started his career by taking a job at the theatre. This job was not writing or acting out plays, but instead he held horses for the theatre goers (“The Life of William Shakespeare (1564-1616)”). Henry VI became his first successful play in 1592 and in 1594 he became part of the Lord Chamberlin’s Men. In 1599 Shakespeare became part owner in The Globe Theatre along with the Lord Chamberlin’s Men. Over the next fifteen years, this brilliant playwright became extremely wealthy (“William Shakespeare April 23, 1564- April 23, 1616”). Shakespeare dedicated his life to the theatre, writing many histories, comedies and tragedies specifically for his theatre, The Globe, and is now one of the world’s most performed and admired playwrights of all time (“The Life of William Shakespeare (1564-1616)”).
Shakespeare was the son of John Shakespeare and Mary Aden. He was their third child out of eight. His father was a glove maker as well as a tradesman which meant his father did not bring home a lot of money (“A Shakespeare Timeline”). His mother on the other hand was the daughter of a wealthy farmer, but she did not receive any of his wealth (“A Shakespeare Timeline”). Shakespeare went to a local elementary school where they studied a very elegant curriculum of Greek mythology, Roman comedy, ancient history, rhetoric, grammar, Latin, and possibly Greek.
