Should Abortions Be Avoided?
One of the biggest controversial issues that are always talked about is abortions. Abortions are a very touchy topic that has millions of opinions why or why not abortions should be avoided. I believe that people have a right to their opinion and there will always be an opinion on this subject, but I also believe that abortions are hurtful, terrible, and just plain wrong.
An abortion can also be called voluntary abortion, but it is the removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end pregnancy. There are various surgical methods for terminating a pregnancy, especially during the six months of pregnancy (Dictionary.com). There are a huge number of abortions happening worldwide. The number of abortions per day is approximately 115,000 and the number of abortions per year is approximately 42 million (Abortion Facts).
There are many different methods to an abortion and the most common one is the Suction Aspiration which is done in the first twelve weeks of pregnancy. It’s accounting for about ninety percent of abortions and this is where the mother’s cervix is dilated and then they stick a hollow tube with a knife-edged tip and they insert it into the womb. The tube is connected to a vacuum machine by a transparent tube; this suction is twenty-nine times more powerful than a household vacuum. Then the fetus and placenta are torn into small pieces which are sucked through the tube into a bottle and discarded. The second method which is also done in the first twelve weeks is the Dilation and Curettage (D&C) Abortion which s similar to the suction method. The difference is a looped-shaped knife (curette) is used instead of the suction tube, it cuts the baby into pieces and it is scraped out (LifeSiteNews).
