French Revolution - Timeline

As you watch today’s presentations, fill in your timeline with the causes of the changes in France’s government.
Because of their hatred towards Great Britain, they funded the French Revolution.
Heavy taxes made it almost impossible to have a profitable business.
Cost of living was on the rise. It cost more to actually go and buy things. Bread becomes a staple of poor people.
Bad weather caused crop failures that resulted in grain shortages and caused the price of bread to rise.
The government that the revolutionaries are seeking are either a democracy or a constitutional monarchy. England had a constitutional monarchy.

Cause: Doubled the government’s debt
Key terms/events: In 1786, banks stopped loaning France money. Forced to call a meeting of the estates general to approve the tax- first meeting in 175 years, held at Versailles.
What did it accomplish?
Estates-General
Cause: First two estates could always out vote the third estate. The third estate votes for the national Assembly to pass laws and reforms, and they end up locked out of the meetings.

National Assembly
Cause: They thought that it was unfair that the two estates could out vote the third.
Key terms/events: They find a place to meet and are joined by some members of the first estate and some members of the second estate. Swore an oath: they wouldn’t leave until they drew up a new constitution
What did it accomplish? Commoners are now equal to the clergy. Write a document called “The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen”.
National Convention/Committee of Public Safety
Cause:
Key terms/events: Reign of terror- 40,000 people executed- the same people who were supposed to be helped by the revolution
What did it accomplish? Power is placed under the control of the upper middle class with a two house legislature and a five member executive body....
