During the Vietnam War, Morrie gave all his male students A’s to keep them from being sent to fight. I think what Morrie did was right because he saved a number of lives from being lost in the battlefields in Vietnam. He thinks that we shouldn’t fight for a war we didn’t want in the first place. Why should our men be sent away to fight and die because of some pompous, rich fat man who decided so? Morrie’s decision reduced the number of families who had to go through the loss and pain of losing a loved one. “Love each other or perish” by Auden was quoted by Morrie to describes the absence in a person’s life when love is missing. Life without love would be bleak, bland, depressing. Our lives would become a sad routine that would lead no-where and continue into an endless spiral. Love is what motivates us, encourages us, and supports us in our everyday lives. We turn to a loved one when we need help because they can shed some hope or some light on us. Loving each other helps us get together to tackle a problem. In life, I believe, we need these 3 factors; work, love, and fun but I think that love is the most important of all factors because it’s love that inspires you to work, its love that creates a fun for you. Love brings optimism and affection that each being longs for and needs. A world without love is a world in a nightmare. Where you don’t have a sense of trust in anyone, pessimism surrounds you and leads you to a state of paranoia. With love we have a shield, a safety blanket in where we turn to to shelter us from being drowned in our problems. Where would we be in the world if we didn’t love? Like Auden and Morrie said “love each other or perish”.
