Mishra, R., & McKean, M. (2000). College Students Academic Stress and Its Relation to Their Anxiety, Time Management and, Leisure Satisfaction. American Journal of Health Studies, 16(1).

    The purpose of the study was to see the correlation between academic stress, anxiety, time management, and leisure satisfaction among college students. The study consisted of 249 full time undergraduate students from Midwestern university. 593 questionnaires were randomly mailed out to students of those only 249 surveys were mailed back.  The sample was predominately 91% Caucasian, which reflected the university’s population. The average age in the sample was 21 years, majority of the respondents were females (74.6%), were in their sophomore year (36%),  and 75% of the participants reported engaging in religious activity regularly. Healthwise 25% of the participants were smokers, 72.6% reported they consumed alcoholic beverages in the past week, primarily binge drinking during the weekends. The instrument used for the study were four self reporting questionnaires. The Gadzella's Student-life Stress Inventory (SLSI) (1991), was a 51 item questionnaire used to asses the students academic stress and how they responded to the stress. For leisure activity satisfaction, they used the Beard and Ragheb's (1980) Leisure Satisfaction Measurement, a 51 item questionnaire assessed how satisfied are the students with their leisure activities. When measuring time management the researchers used the Time Management Behaviors (TMB) scale, a 46 item questionnaire assessing how the students manage their time, set goals and priorities, and organizational skills. Lastly, the researchers used Spielberger's (1980) State-Trait Anxiety Inventory Form Y (STAI-Y) to assess the student’s state of anxiety, emotional state, and how the students anxiety relates to their individual personality traits.
