Sooner or Later

Few years ago I learned something that nobody could teach me; friends, teachers, not even my parents could show me how important is to appreciate others and do good to them without expecting something. Some people might think is a myth, others would think is a coincidence, and few of them would agree with me that far from fiction this can happen to anybody, anywhere, anytime.

Everything started in my country, I and some of my friends went to get something to eat and celebrate, because the next day I was leaving to the United States for first time. It was really late at night and I decided to drive, there were few cars on the street and I barely could see because it was raining a lot. We went to eat something, have couple non-alcohol drinks, and we did have a good time. We finally decided to go home after spending two, or tree hours at the restaurant, again I was driving when we approached to one of the streets where there was a stop sign, which I didn’t see. At the moment that I was crossing the street another car was coming on the opposite way, I didn’t see anything I just felt when I crashed her passenger door and broke almost all the windows of her really old Toyota. I pulled up to the side of the street when my friends start yelling at me… “Let’s go… Let’s go... We have to go” I can say that I see my whole life in that minute, I thought about everything, “if the police come, I might get arrested, and I won’t be allowed to leave the country.” So I probably took the worse decision and I left. I went home and I park my car in the garage, I told my family that a guy was backing up and hit the car at the parking of the place where we were eating. They believed everything I said. Next morning I left exactly how it was planned.

I’ve been here for tree years already, and I almost forgot about that accident, but last month, couple days before Christmas, a big snow storm was making almost impossible drive in the street of the cold Chicago...
