Soul Surfer
I found Soul Surfer to be an inspiring, faith building movie, suitable for viewers of all ages. Even the scene with the shark attack only last seconds. Christians and non-Christians can learn a lot about life and dealing with the struggles that we encounter along the way, from the story of this young lady’s life.
This is a movie based on the real life story of a teenage girl named Bethany Hamilton. Bethany was living what many Hawaiian’s would consider a perfect life, then one day she became the victim of a horrific accident that could change everything. She must choose to accept the new life or fight to regain the old. Many people are faced with hard decisions on a daily basis, how they choose to deal with these affect them for the rest of their lives.
The actors portraying the charters were a mixture of known and unknown names. The main character, Bethany was played by AnnaSophia Robb. AnnaSophia is known for many movies like Bridge over Terabithia and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Dennis Quaid plays the role of Bethany’s father, while the role of Bethany’s mother is played by Helen Hunt. Both of these actors have been around for awhile and can be seen in many movies. Helen Hunt has even starred in a few sitcoms. Another known name to any Hercules fan is that of Kevin Sorbo, who plays the father of Bethany’s best friend, Alana. One other well known name is that of Carrie Underwood. She is not known for acting, but for her singing abilities. She is a new comer to the screens of Hollywood, so I will say that her acting was not too bad for a beginner. Some of the other new comers holding lead roles are those of Bethany’s brothers, played by Ross Thomas and Chris Brochus, her best friend Alana, is played by Lorraine Nicholson, and Sonya Bolmores, as her rival surfer Malina Birch. I think each of these actors, known and unknown did an excellent job in portraying the characters.
