Concept Paper 1

When I was a child I never realized that there could be a child or children that weren’t capable of doing everyday tasks like me. Now, that I am aware of this matter I want to help children who may not be able to learn as well as the others.
In my elementary school they had a different room for the exceptional students and the other students; myself included, never interacted with them. Going through middle school and high school the exceptional students were around us in different places, like, lunch, school pep rallies, but still had there own rooms. Now, that I have decided to become a preschool teacher I know that most centers can not make a room specifically for that exceptional child or children because of financial reasons. Since we are discussing a public classroom setting I feel that the exceptional children should be in a separate room if their disability is severe and can not function in a classroom setting. If there are certain children who say, can not read at the level they are supposed to, or have trouble with test taking than they should be taken out during the time the teacher is doing that certain subject and have someone help them one on one or in a small group. I know from experience because I have a learning disability that sometimes it helps to be away from the distractions and to have that one on one help to better understand that subject you are having trouble with.
With that said, I can truly say that I have never worked with an exceptional child or children so I really do not know the circumstances I could be involved with when I become a teacher. Like parents who do not feel that their child has a disability and doesn’t want the child to be moved to another room or if the child might feel like they are getting made fun of by the other children.
When I start teaching in a classroom and am faced with some of these situations, I will try to think positive and make the best out of it. I will work with...
