Speech of Introduction

Would any of you spend your whole summer working 12 hour days with no pay? Or how about voluntarily enduring pain for the sake of telling your friends a story later? I would guess that most of you would say “No way!” My name is Chrystina Harris and I have done both of these several times in the past year. If I had to describe myself in only two words, I would pick adventure and passion. My friends consider me adventurous, almost to the point of being crazy, and I have a passion for life and for loving people. From my major, to getting Tattoos, and to jumping out of airplanes, I am far from your average girl. One thing that makes me a little adventurous is the fact that I am a Nursing major. On our campus of over 13,000 students, there are only 237 declared Nursing majors. That’s lower than .02%! Once I obtain my Nursing degree, I have even thought about going overseas and working in a third-world country. In my eyes, there’s nothing better than being able to help someone who has no way of ever paying you back. Another thing that makes me adventurous is that I have 6 tattoos. I have gotten them all within a two year span, which comes out to one in about every 3-4 months. Most people would say that’s crazy, but it’s normal to me. Each of my tattoos tells a unique story. I didn’t get them “just because,” nor did I walk into the parlor and point to a design on the wall. I designed each one and I believe it adds to the character of the tattoo. Even though most people would say that getting tattoos is pretty adventurous, I went even further still and decided to jump out of an airplane. Now, if you really know me, the tattoos wouldn’t come as a surprise, but this is where most of my friends drew the line and really started to ask me if I had lost my mind. For me, skydiving was the epitome of “adventure” and it was something I just had to do. There is nothing like being 14,000 feet in the air with nothing around you.
