Good Evening ladies and gentlemen, I welcome you hear tonight and thank you for coming to spend your time and listen to what I have to say. The main area I wish to cover is why people should not take unnecessary risks. My name is Alan sugars and I am an insurance risk assessor. I am here to speak to you about business’s/company’s in particular to my motion.
Why avoid insuring risks? What’s the point? Questions I have heard over and over again and will never end. In my 13 years working with Allied Irish Insurance and Risk Assessment, I have been open to a variety of issues surrounding this motion. The work “risk”, what is it? In the context we are dealing with it describes the probability of an accident to occur. No one will ever no know for sure whether the risk in question for the particular environment will ever occur. This is why people like myself are trained to asses the probability of the likeliness of the situation to cause an accident and to quote a reasonable premium for that business. As a director of my division over the 13 years of my service I built up a portfolio of accidents which have occurred whether it is insured or not along with the information I compile from my colleagues. Unfortunately we work off the loss of life and injuries of others to calculate the probability of the risk occurring. When I am called by any firm I get a feeling for the site immediately or office or factory what ever it may be. It tells me a lot and I know in most cases when the premium which they are paying is truly covering all the risks involved. On the other it is not finically reasonable to insure absolutely everything. With in all the different projects I have worked over the years to date I have calculated like most other high profile insurers that 33% of companies do not have suitable cover for the risk’s involved in their operation.
