Squanto is a very famous Indian and helped Americans a lot. Squanto came from the Patuxet tribe. He taught them how to grow corn. He traded with the pilgrims and also taught them how to hunt. Squanto had also gone to England and spent some time there.
Squanto was from the Patuxet tribe and was one of the few Indians that could speak English. He was born in 1585 and died 1622. He was born in what now is Plymouth Massachusetts. While Squanto was in England the Patuxet tribe was hit with a very bad plague called small pox. When Squanto arrived home half his tribe was dead and the other half had joined the Wampanoag tribe. So Squanto joined them also.
Squanto helped the Pilgrims a lot. He helped them build warm houses better than the ones the had used in the winter before witch killed a lot of them. He taught them when plant corn and they knew when to plant it by looking at the leaves on the trees when they where as big as squirrels ears that’s when they should pant the corn. Then he showed them how to plant the corn. Into a hill they had to plant alot of seeds and use a fish as a fertilizer and it would grow a lot faster than normal. without his help they wouldn’t have grown a lot of corn that year. Then he taught the women how to cook the corn.
Squanto helped the pilgrims and they helped him to giving him cloths and inviting him to come back to England with them he accepted there offer. His mother begged him not to go but he went anyway. He stayed with Charles Robbins and his family. Squanto became home sick and Charles helped him find a way home with Caption Smith. He returned back to Massachusetts and on his way home he was captured and taken to Spain to be sold as a slave. Luckily he found a monastery and they helped him be free and bought him a ticket back to Plymouth.
