FOUNDED
1971 in Seattle’s Pike Place Market. Original name of company was Starbucks
Coffee, Tea and Spices, later changed to Starbucks Coffee Company.
FOLKLORE
Starbucks is named after the first mate in Herman Melville’s Moby Dick.
