The use of steroids to gain muscle is quick and effective, but steroids have some serious negative effects as well. Weightlifters and other athletes use them to gain strength quickly, but after they stop using them; they lose their strength and become trapped in the steroid cycle. Nevertheless Legalizing Performance Enhancing Drugs should not be permitted because of the negative consequences they bring. Steroids affect the athletes health, sportsmanship of the sport and the influence athletes have on teenagers and their young fans.

Health risks are the most concerning part when an athlete is taking steroids. The three major steroids that athletes take are Anabolic Steroid, Human Growth Hormone and Creatine. Steroids are “Substances that increase muscle mass and strength” (mayoclinc.com). Steroids can be taken two ways, orally and you can inject them into your body with needles. Oral steroids risks are they put a lot of stress on your liver and it can lead to blood sugar problems. Injectable steroids have a draw back too. Many people complain about the big syringes. The user must use a needle that is 1.5 to 2 inches into the muscle of the thigh or buttocks. Once the user injects the steroid in one side of his butt and the other the next. Then, the user can barely sit down for the next three days. There are hundreds of forms of steroids that have been synthesized each one having different levels of anabolic and androgenic effects. Anabolic steroids are constructed synthetically to maximize the growth effect and minimize the male characteristic effect.
