Gun Control

Just Say No to Gun Control

Society benefits from firearms in the hands of responsible, conscientious citizens. Attempts by the U.S. Government to keep these citizens from owning firearms will do more harm than good. The issue of gun control is multifaceted. It can be viewed as a rights issue, a crime issue, a safety issue, and even a racial issue. However one looks at it, the common issue is a political one. For example, The NRA and Handgun Control Inc are major lobbying organizations, donating hundreds of thousands in political financing. Politicians who are tough on gun control could lose political financing as well as votes for re-election. Some feel that if they keep advocating for more rights, they'll give the impression that they are unsympathetic to gun death victims and their families.
As early as the 1700s, our founding forefathers reasoned that every U.S. citizen should be given the right to bear arms. Guns are part of the American tradition, and in the early years of this nation’s history, having a gun was a necessity not only for personal and property protection but as a means of putting food on the table.
The Second Amendment to the Constitution, as passed by Congress in 1791, declares that “a well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The Founding Fathers included this in our Bill of Rights because they were afraid that the Federal Government might subjugate the population if the people did not have a way to defend themselves as a nation and as individuals.
