1Stress management is very important to all workplaces and network programs. A new development to delivering stress management is having an on-site center dealing with stress management. Some companies have fitness centers which provide its employees with equipment, staff to help them practice stress management techniques and relaxation methods. Having these features at your fingertips not only help you wind down from a long day, but it helps to promote healthier living by staying in shape.
As an employee, it is easy understand the role that stress plays in our everyday lives and how some companies are looking for ways to make it better for its employees to keep their stress under control. The influence of stress on ones physical and emotional well being is being looked at. Stress has been caught up in diagnosis of heart problems, diabetes, depression, drug and alcohol abuse, and fatigue. Stress comes from everywhere not just the work place but it has a lot to do with the change of your body. Stress related illnesses impact companies every year as well as the employee. This matter can cost an employer millions of dollars. It was reported that stress related disability cases are on the rise.1 In California, the average cost for a disability claim due to stress is over $70k2.
Many workplaces are promoting programs that attempt to help individuals learn how to control stress in the lives. Murphy and Hurrell3, have come up with a model for occupational well-being and stress prevention that focuses on: (i) primary prevention to reduce harmful risk factors or change the surrounding of the stressors occurring, (ii) secondary prevention to alter ways in which individuals react to these risks, and (iii) find ways to help those that have been traumatized or under distress at work.
