Baz Lurthmann, the director of Strictly Ballroom uses various techniques to demonstrate ‘belonging’ and not ‘belonging’ aspects. Lurthmann uses aspects like “partner” and “good parental/background” to show the “belonging” aspect. Lurthmann uses aspects like “Rebellion” and “No Confidence” to show the “not belonging

Lurthmann demonstrates that someone who must have a partner in order to belong to the world of Strictly Ballroom through comparison. Lurthmann shows comparison in the 13 minute scene where everyone in the studio is dancing with a partner while Fran is dancing alone by herself. Lurthmann demonstrates that someone that must have a partner in order to belong.

Lurthmann also demonstrates that someone who must have a good parental/background in order to belong in the world of Strictly Ballroom through observation. Lurthmann shows observation within the first scenes as the audience finds out that Scott’s mother has dancing experience and later on they found out Scott father’s ability.
