Each course has its own way of grabbing the students’ attention along with their willingness to learn the subject. Courses like math and science tend to be on the far end of the spectrum while usually History and English are favored.
I chose this topic simply for the reason, I wondered if the students of Mahomet-Seymour high were interested and inspired to learn in their classes. Also I wanted to identify which classes each student favored or disfavor the most. In order to figure this out I created a survey that asked 200 students what types of classes they like, disliked and why.
The first question on my survey was “Do you enjoy school?” I found that 58% of my sample said yes they enjoy school. While the other 48% of the sample said no they did not enjoy school. I thought this particular question was a great start to my survey since it was easy and straight forward to answer. I had to throw about 12 papers for the reason on some students felt they should circle both answers or just didn’t answer the question.
The second question on my survey read “What is your favorite subject in school”. My hypothesis for this particular question was that either History or English would be the most favored classes within my 7 categories. The results ended up being Math with a 27%, Followed by Art. Art class came in 2nd with an 18%. My hypothesis was proved wrong. As for my other categories there was history with a 16% then English at 13%, science had at 11% then last foreign language at 8% and Agriculture at 7%.
The third question on my sample was “What is your least favorite subject?” For my hypothesis I estimated that Math and Science would be the two most disliked classes. My results showed that most respondents don’t like math and foreign language. My results for math came out to be 28% and for the next subject which was foreign language, was a 23%.
