Sufism and Spiritual dance

 There are many physically challenged individuals who need therapeutic assistance in order to help them improve their quality of life. Sufism spiritual dance and movements is a philosophy based on wisdom that originates from the ancient Persian and Arabian ages.
Sufis or Sufism means a group of Muslims that worship Allah (god) in a specific way through prayers and spiritual movement. The act of the Sufis through dance and movement is spiritual to the degree where the individual is connected emotionally to god, and is completely dedicated to obtaining forgiveness from the almighty god.
The name Sufism was derived from two main words: Suf in Arabic which means fur. This is because the Arabic people would wear clothes that were made of fur. The other word is safa, which means “purity”. Sufism is the inner, mystical dimension of Islam.
The Sufis have five elements of religion. These include: belief in god, the spiritual ideal, the moral conception, the form of worship and the philosophical side of religion. Moreover, the Sufis have many different types of prayers such as prayers for peace, Dowa (asking god to fulfil their wishes), prayer for the dead, blessing prayer for peace in the world, and the healing prayer and the confraternity prayer (Kubilay Akman,2009).
The spiritual dance for the Sufis comes in many different forms, depending on the branch of Sufism the performers are representing. Some forms are performed with only music and some others are with a combination of words and music. Although some forms of the Sufis dances are practiced in different countries such as in Syria, Morocco, Turkey, India and Iran, they are performed for a common goal, which is reciting the prayers and being closer to God.
