Suicide?
Suicide is one of the leading causes of death in the united states and the world. Many teens college students and other people have turned to suicide because it is an easy way out of the harsh life they live. In Janice Mirikitani’s poem “Suicide Note” she has told how college students might feel when they are so stressed that they result to kill themselves. Many college students are so under pressure from their families and themselves, they try to prove themselves over and over again. In this poem the girl is so stressed because her parents had wanted her to be perfect in school.
Each failure, like a glacier on those who have tried so hard. Students in college are under so much pressure that they cannot keep up with the demands of the teachers. they have tried hard to do what they are told to do but yet their parents probably have made their stress worse. Even though all parents want their children to do well in school some push too far. Far enough to where the students do even worse in school and may not even speak to their family again. That is the nicest course of action when this happens but students who thrive on pleasing their parents with good grades think that there is no other option but to take their life if their grades are not the most perfect in the entire school. In this poem Mirikitani shows that is what happened with a college student and her family, because she did not have a 4.0 grade average. The parents thought of her as a disappointment for having a 3.9 grade average.
If only she were a son it would have been so easy to please the family. Women have always been considered the weaker sex of the human race no matter what period of time it was. Women have trouble with finding jobs and being able to go to certain colleges just because they are women. This is reason to believe that many women have low self-esteems because they feel stupid and weak. Suicide is often a...
