The symbols that were used in this book can draw up a vivid understanding of the ongoing relationships in the novel the kite runner. The symbols that are used in the book relate mainly on themes of relationship and the other themes that are mentioned in the book. This book focuses mostly on betrayal as a part of ongoing relationship, as Amir betrays his best friend Hassan. The symbols in this book can provide an understanding of the themes and add an understanding of why they play such a great importance. In this book Hosseini uses a lot of symbols, for example the symbol of a kite or the kite itself is used to symbolize loyalty and freedom as the pomegranate tree symbolizes friendship and the freedom of the afghan people. The tree that symbolizes friendship between Hassan and Amir had their names cut out on it. Under this tree Amir used to read stories to Hassan and eat pomegranates after school. As their names were imprinted on the tree that symbolized the friendship between them, and was used as a token of their friendship. This book works all around the symbols that represent the relationship between the characters in the book and especially the relationship between Amir and Hassan. The author used symbolism in this book to explain and vivify the relationship between Amir and Hassan and the later on with Amir and Sohrab. As the symbols that Hosseini uses provide a great understanding of the culture that the main heroes of this novel have grown up in. as in most of the symbols can connect to Afghanistan and show us the way people used to live at that time.
